Emma Tann is an abstract artist, based in London. Her vibrant paintings are known for their vivid and playful use of colour.

“My work celebrates colour, in all its glory and myriad moods; deep, luminous, ethereal, glowing colour! Each painting starts life with a chaotic layer, in which paint is poured, dripped and splattered, facilitating gleeful accidents and bleeding puddles. These resulting pools of colour act as inspiration for the rest of the painting. After this initial phase, the pace shifts, and it is time for smaller brushes and carefully considered strokes.

I work to find order and beauty amid the serendipitous chaos. I allow my work to unfurl honestly and intuitively, fighting the urge to control each drip. I have long been searching for a way to illuminate my paintings; to allow my colours to burn and glow, striving to capture something of the colour and light that characterise the work of Turner and Rothko. My work continues to explore this path, investigating colour and substance, light and contrast. I often seek colour inspiration in the natural world, turning to wild flowers and sunset skies.

Ten years of committed painting, play and experimentation has led to this point in my practice: I have found my voice as an artist, creating joyful work which honours colour and the inherent beauty of paint.”
